What can you expect when you join Rydoo?

Our people are our best advocates and the aim from day one at Rydoo was to make it a  brilliant place to work.

People thinking of joining Rydoo are naturally going to have a lot of questions: What’s the culture like? What are people working on? What’s the best bit about their jobs?

In this article, we wanted to showcase three of our colleagues who joined straight from university to see what attracted them to Rydoo and what their first impressions of the business are.

Enes, Gloria and Sara all joined us during the last year, work in different departments and even live in different countries so we should get a good cross-section of views.

Joining Rydoo

As a Computer Science Master’s student specialising in AI at Belgium’s largest university KU Leuven, Enes had plenty of offers for his services, so what persuaded him to join Rydoo?

“There were a lot of offers for sure, mostly from consultancy companies. In fact, there was so much going on that I couldn’t sleep! I wanted a company where there was a real challenge and with Rydoo I knew I would be working on software used by millions of people”.

I spoke with the company about the work and the challenges that they had. I liked the idea of working in .NET which I only had a little experience in.” And of course, I checked out Rydoo on Glassdoor to see if people liked working there!”

Sara had a different reason for joining the business. As she explained, the international nature of the company and the people that work there were a major draw.

“When I spoke to Rivka from the Rydoo People Team, she explained that the company has a real international vibe which I really loved and I haven’t been disappointed”

A relationship based on trust & responsibility

Obviously, no international mobility program would work without trust. It’s not just about letting your employees work from a different location, it’s about giving your employees the space to thrive in the environment they can do their best work and not micromanaging or controlling the process step-by-step.

Mick’s manager, Cedric said “I know that Mick takes ownership of his projects and responsibilities regardless of his location”.

When asked about what has changed most in regards to his work life since he arrived in Lisbon, Mick told us that he didn’t feel that much had changed. “It’s funny to say but I don’t think it feels much different than lockdown times with zoom calls, etc. The only big difference now is that I have the opportunity to go for an after work surf”.

Beauty meets functionality

We took the opportunity to also ask Mick about his life as a Product Designer at Rydoo. He’s currently the main designer for everything that you see on our web application and for him, this is the most rewarding part of the job.

“At University most things are only conceptual, but here I see my work being used – and by more than a million users. As a product designer it is a big motivation to see that my work doesn’t just look nice, but is also functional and easy to use.”
